Frequently Asked Questions About Anger Therapy

What types of anger issues do you help with?

We help adults, teens, and children who feel like their anger is too intense, comes out of nowhere, or is hard to control. This can include explosive reactions, simmering resentment, frequent irritation, outbursts in relationships, and anger that shows up as shutdown or withdrawal.

How do I know if anger therapy is right for me or my child?

Anger therapy can help if anger is hurting relationships, causing problems at work or school, leading to guilt or shame after outbursts, or making home feel tense. If you or your child feel out of control, misunderstood, or overwhelmed by big emotions, it is a good time to reach out.

What therapy methods do you use to treat anger?

Our therapists use approaches such as CBT, DBT skills, trauma informed work, and mindfulness and somatic tools. We focus on understanding what is underneath the anger, calming the nervous system, improving communication, and building practical skills for managing strong emotions in everyday life.

Can you help children and teens who struggle with anger?

Yes. We work with children (5 and up), teens, and young adults. Sessions often include play, art, and concrete coping skills that help them notice early warning signs, express feelings in safer ways, and repair after conflict with parents, siblings, or peers.

How soon will I or my child start feeling more in control?

Many clients begin to notice small changes within the first several sessions, such as pausing before reacting or recovering more quickly after conflict. Deeper shifts in patterns and relationships take more time. Your therapist will move at a pace that feels respectful and realistic for you or your child.

What can I expect in the first anger therapy session?

In the first session you can expect a calm, non judgmental space. Your therapist will ask about what anger looks like for you, what tends to trigger it, and how it is affecting your life. You will work together to set goals and begin a plan that focuses on safety, skills, and healthier ways to respond.

Do you offer in person and online anger therapy?

Yes. We offer in person sessions at our Cottonwood Heights office as well as secure virtual sessions for clients who prefer online therapy or need more flexibility with their schedule.

Is anger therapy covered by insurance?

Yes, many plans cover therapy related to anger and emotional regulation. We accept SelectHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Regence Blue Cross, Desert Mutual, and EMI. We also welcome private pay clients. Our team can help you verify your benefits and estimate your costs before you begin.

How do I get started with anger therapy?

You can contact us or request an appointment online. We will help match you or your child with a therapist who is a good fit and make scheduling your first session as simple as possible.

Why choose Your Path Therapy for anger treatment?

Our clinic is known for warm, non shaming support and therapists who understand that anger is often a signal of deeper needs, hurt, or stress. We are dedicated to helping adults, teens, and children understand their anger, repair relationships, and build healthier ways to cope with big emotions.
