Frequently Asked Questions About PTSD Therapy

What types of PTSD do you help with?

We support adults, teens, and children who are living with PTSD and trauma related symptoms. This can include single event trauma, ongoing or complex trauma, childhood abuse or neglect, medical or birth trauma, relational and spiritual trauma, and other painful experiences that still affect daily life.

How do I know if PTSD therapy is right for me or my child?

PTSD therapy can help if you or your child feel stuck in the past, have nightmares or flashbacks, feel constantly on edge, avoid reminders, or shut down when triggered. If your nervous system rarely feels safe or calm, working with a therapist who understands PTSD can make a meaningful difference.

What therapy methods do you use to treat PTSD?

Our therapists use evidence informed approaches that are well suited for PTSD, such as EMDR, CBT, parts work, somatic and mindfulness based therapies. These methods are designed to reduce distress, process traumatic memories at a manageable pace, and help you build a more grounded and hopeful view of yourself.

Can you help children and teens with PTSD symptoms?

Yes. We work with children (5 and up), teens, and young adults. Sessions often include play, art, and skills focused activities that help younger clients express what they have been through, feel safer in their bodies, and develop healthier coping tools at home, school, and in relationships.

How soon will I or my child start feeling better?

Some clients notice small shifts in safety, sleep, or coping within the first few months. Others, especially those with complex trauma, may need longer term support. Your therapist will check in often about what is helping, adjust the pace as needed, and focus on changes that feel sustainable for you.

What can I expect in the first PTSD therapy session?

The first session is focused on safety and getting to know you. Your therapist will ask about your goals, current symptoms, and what you have already tried. You will not be asked to share details of traumatic events before you are ready. Together you will create a plan that feels thoughtful and manageable.

Do you offer in person and online PTSD therapy?

Yes. We offer in person sessions at our Cottonwood Heights office and secure virtual sessions for clients who prefer online therapy or need more flexibility for travel, childcare, or health reasons.

Is PTSD therapy covered by insurance?

Yes, many plans cover PTSD therapy. We accept SelectHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Regence Blue Cross, Desert Mutual, and EMI. We also welcome private pay clients. Our team can help you verify your benefits and understand your estimated costs before you begin.

How do I get started with PTSD therapy?

You can contact us or request an appointment online. We will help you or your child get matched with a therapist who is trained in trauma work and support you in scheduling a first session that fits your needs.

Why choose Your Path Therapy for PTSD treatment?

Our clinic is known for warm, trauma informed care and therapists who understand how PTSD affects the brain, body, and relationships. We are dedicated to helping adults, teens, and children feel safer, more empowered, and more connected so that life is not defined only by what happened in the past.
